For Audrey
Following Audrey’s passing on 15 February 2026 we’ve been inundated with kind messages, beautiful flowers and the loveliest cards from so many customers, colleagues, friends and suppliers – too many to all thank individually at this moment in time and it really reminds us of how lucky we are to be able to think of everyone we know, as being a true part of our Audrey Johns family. Long may the culture, the love and our friendships continue.
We’ve also been asked about what’s happening with Audrey’s beloved artwork, so we’re really pleased to be able to share with you that Audrey’s paintings and prints will remain on show at our Brunel Quay Headquarters as we had already been doing during the long winter months. We are now developing some exciting ideas to increase the footprint of our Showroom to be able to share and display more of what we love doing. So please visit and stay tuned!
Thank you from George, Jane, Olivia and Francesca Johns

Remembering Audrey Johns – How it all began:
If you’d ever wondered about our back story, our founder Audrey Johns let us in on her background. “I’d studied advanced dress and pattern cutting at an Essex Technical College from 1960-64, where the main coffee break topic was how to make an income from our sewing and design skills. One young woman felt that the best idea was to forget about Dress, and focus on soft furnishings. Hardly anyone was doing it, and there was a rising interest in home decoration – some great British cotton mills had closed as fabrics could be bought cheaply from China and India, while the stalwarts of superior fabric design and production such as Sanderson and Liberty remained in popular demand where their presence always smacked of quality and style.
A few years were then spent being a housewife and mother, together with a need to create a bit more interest for myself, so I decided to put a small classified ad in the local paper: –
“Curtains made to measure, customers to supply their own materials.”
The phone didn’t stop ringing as they say, and here we are 40 years later with the fantastic Showroom in Neyland right in the very heart of our workroom, a measuring and installation team based in London and a national and international client list.”
Remembering Audrey Johns – Some top tips for home stylists:
It doesn’t get much better than some timeless advice for styling your home interiors from our company founder Audrey Johns herself:
“Your home should be a reflection of you and your family, so don’t feel you’ve got to follow magazine recommendations too closely.
1) BE BRAVE – if you really love a wacky wallpaper, then have it on a feature wall to show off your mirror and lighting. You’ll create some interesting shadows by hanging pottery plaques etc.
2) USE WARM COLOURS ON WALLS – look carefully at paint charts, and see there are ‘warm’ as well as ‘cool’ greys as well as whites for example. Use strong and dramatic primary colours on walls where framed pictures are to hang.
3) MAKE IT LOOK LIVED IN – try to avoid making your room look like a shop window. A room should look lived in with books, photographs, knitting or a small craft/ writing table, to encourage family to spend time together.
4) INVESTMENT – be prepared to invest in the best quality of fabrics and fittings that you can afford.
I meet customers that we supplied thirty years ago, and they tell me that they still have those curtains and they still love them, whereas they’ve probably changed the carpet three or four times during that time.
Our showroom has a fine collection of classic designs that have stood the test of time. For example, our curtains – when supported by a choice of good cotton linings, and professionally fitted tracks or poles, the results will add considerably to the feel and value of your home.”
Audrey was also a fine art painter, spending her time creating beautiful pieces that are exhibited at our Brunel Quay Showroom in Neyland. Check out more of her work here.
